Whilst traveling across the country going west on route 40, my good friend and expert traveler Paul suggested we veer onto route 66 for a bit. For those who don't know, route 66 is in no way a practical route to take across the entire country, because although it does run east and west south of 40, it's super historical, only one lane and the speed limit is 40mph.
Route 66 was absolutely kitschy and adorable and right up my alley, and to surprise us, Paul led us to the Wigwam Motel.
The Wigwam Motel that we saw was actually a part of a chain of hotels built across the country from 1939-1950. This particular branch is one of the three remaining motels, the other two being in California and Kentucky.
For each little motel room, there is a hot rod or historical car permanently parked. It was so much fun being surprised by this historical spot, and frolicking among the cars and the teepees was a fun little break in the middle of all our driving.
Needless to say, I miss exploring!!
